Fèis Phàislig Launches ‘Stramash for Schools 2023’ Tour Today!
Fèis Phàislig is set to bring traditional music and Gaelic culture to local schools with its ‘Stramash for Schools’ tour. The 15-day tour kicks off today and will visit 45 primary and secondary schools in Renfrewshire.
Throughout the tour, three professional musicians will perform live traditional and Gaelic music, showcase different instruments, and teach pupils some Gaelic phrases. The project is part of a wider education programme developed ahead of the Royal National Mòd returning to Paisley this October and has been made possible thanks to support from Renfrewshire Council and the Mòd Phàislig Local Organising Group. The programme aims to raise awareness and participation in the Mòd, as well as let pupils know about the wider Fèis programme of events.
Fèis Coordinator, Grant McFarlane, says: “We’ve been successfully delivering Stramash for Schools for a number of years but will be visiting more schools than ever this year. Our hope is to inspire and engage young people with Scotland’s cultural heritage, and we’re grateful to Renfrewshire Council and the Mòd Phàislig Local Organising Group for making this project possible.”
Mark Traynor, Head of Renfrewshire Council Instrumental Music Service, adds: “Fèis Phàislig’s ‘Stramash for Schools’ is a wonderful opportunity for pupils in Renfrewshire to engage with traditional music and Gaelic culture. We’re proud to support Fèis Phàislig in their work to promote Scotland’s cultural heritage and provide opportunities for young people across Renfrewshire.”
