Ubuntu Band collaboration at Sma’ Shots Day

Following our collaboration at our 10th Anniversary Concert, we were delighted to continue working with the Ubuntu Band, with support from Renfrewshire Council.

The Ubuntu Band is a youth percussion and cultural music group facilitated by the School of African Culture in Paisley. Made up of young performers, the group celebrates community, culture and shared music making. Our Fèis tutors, Ron Jappy (fiddle) and Stevie Fivey (percussion), worked with the band to explore Scottish traditional music, learning traditional tunes and rhythms while developing arrangements that brought together Scottish traditional music and African drumming.

The project culminated in a performance at Sma’ Shots Day, showcasing the hard work and creativity of the young musicians. You can watch the Ubuntu Band’s performance now on YouTube!
